Ubisoft’s Emoji Tease Points to 60 FPS Updates for Three Classic Far Cry Games

Ubisoft is back to flirting with half-hints and emojis, but the target is pretty clear: three classic Far Cry games may be getting 60 fps updates. A deliberately cryptic post suggests the older entries could soon receive current-gen console patches. It looks like the fan pressure actually paid off, and Ubisoft isn’t letting these veterans gather dust.

With the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series era likely having only a few years left, plenty of games are still stuck where they are, without meaningful performance or resolution upgrades for newer hardware. The community has been pushing for years to make classic titles worth replaying with steadier performance, sharper image quality, and 60 frames per second. Ubisoft seems to be leaning into that demand, and it’s now effectively nudging players on which older releases might be worth revisiting.

All signs point to the publisher dusting off multiple older Far Cry entries and refreshing them with a few improvements that feel like table stakes today. Instead of a clean announcement, the franchise’s official X account posted a message designed to be decoded, mixing emojis with wordplay that steers attention straight toward Far Cry 3, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, and Far Cry: Primal. The biggest read is that the long-requested 60 fps option is finally on the way.

After years of fans asking for it, Ubisoft appears ready to make these games run more smoothly on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with speculation even dragging Nintendo Switch 2 into the conversation. The post lined up jungle, dragon, and “caveman” style emojis, then paired them with puns that push the interpretation toward “60” and “fps.” One user spelled out those three titles directly, and the account replied: “Pretty clear what it is, isn’t it?” In other responses, the confirmation was even more direct: “That’s correct.” The latest chatter even attaches a date, with January 21 floated as the day the 60 fps patches could land, and additional tuning (textures, lighting, resolution) doesn’t seem out of the question.

What Do We Know About Far Cry 7?

While Ubisoft still hasn’t officially unveiled Far Cry 7, multiple reports claim it’s being developed internally under the codename Project Blackbird. Rumors suggest the next entry could shift its structure, with a story centered on rescuing the protagonist’s family under a 24-hour, real-time limit. There’s also talk that a multiplayer, extraction-style Far Cry spin-off is being worked on in parallel, though reports have circulated that development has been rebooted. Either way, the company’s CEO has previously said he wants Far Cry games to be played “for longer”, with more prominent online modes. The franchise may also expand on screens beyond games, as reports claim Disney has greenlit an anthology-style TV adaptation.
