Fictions and Game Freak have announced that the “one-person, one-dog action RPG” Beast of Reincarnation will launch on August 4 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store, and it will also be available day one via Game Pass. A physical edition will release for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series the same day as the digital launch.
Beast of Reincarnation is set in a post-apocalyptic Japan where a devastating blight has left humanity on the brink. The story follows Emma, an outcast shunned by society because of her affliction, and Koo, a blighted dog. Together, they set out on an expansive journey that frames the duo as the player’s central axis – one person, one dog, and a world that does not forgive mistakes.
According to the publisher’s overview, the game aims to balance isolation with companionship. It promises stretches where loneliness is the dominant feeling, but also moments defined by the reliability and comfort of a companion at your side. The setting leans into impermanence, with forests that can suddenly burst forth amid the wasteland, while Emma and Koo’s bond and abilities develop as the journey pushes forward.
The release details are straightforward and broad: PS5, Xbox Series, and PC, with PC distribution spanning both Steam and the Microsoft Store. The day-one Game Pass availability adds an immediate on-ramp for players on Xbox and PC, while the physical edition ensures the console versions have a boxed option at launch alongside the digital release.
Post-Apocalyptic Japan, A Shifting World, And a Story Built Around Emma and Koo’s Bond
The framing is deliberately centered on the relationship between Emma and Koo. Emma’s status as a societal outcast and Koo’s blighted condition are positioned as more than backstory – they are the core of the journey, shaping how the world reads and how the player experiences its pressure. The publisher’s pitch highlights the companion dynamic as an emotional anchor, contrasting the harshness of the setting with the stability of having someone – or something – you can rely on.
The world itself is described as unstable in a way that is meant to be felt, not just seen. The emphasis on impermanence and the image of forests erupting from wasteland suggest a landscape that can change dramatically, reinforcing the idea that this is a journey through beauty and brutality at the same time. As Emma and Koo move through it, their bond strengthens, and their abilities “blossom,” hinting at progression tied directly to the partnership.
With the August 4 date now locked, the announcement is backed by a new trailer and a fresh batch of screenshots. Between the platform list, the day-one Game Pass note, and the confirmation of a physical edition for PS5 and Xbox Series, Beast of Reincarnation now has a concrete launch plan rather than a vague release window.
