A well-known Resident Evil leaker claims a new Resident Evil remake has only recently entered development. The catch is that it’s nowhere near release – and it might not even make it that far.
With Resident Evil Requiem keeping the franchise in the spotlight, the rumor mill is spinning again – this time around the original Resident Evil. The claim is tied to Dusk Golem (AestheticGamer), a leaker who has built a reputation for getting multiple Resident Evil-related details right in the past.
The key point is timing: the project is said to be in early development, which would put any launch far down the road. Current estimates floating around place it roughly 4-7 years out, and even that comes with a big asterisk – Resident Evil projects can and do get scrapped, especially when they’re still at a formative stage.
The idea of remaking the first game again also raises eyebrows because Resident Evil already received an iconic remake back in 2002. If this rumor is accurate, the new effort would likely be closer to a modern reimagining than a simple visual upgrade.
In terms of the broader lineup, the chatter suggests Capcom’s nearer-term focus remains elsewhere: a long-rumored Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake, then a Resident Evil 0 remake, followed by the next mainline entry – Resident Evil 10. Only after that would the franchise circle back to a new take on the original.
Nothing here is official, but it’s one of those rumors that’s getting more attention than usual because of who it’s coming from. If it turns out to be true, Capcom’s long game for Resident Evil is still heavily split between big new entries and a steady pipeline of remakes.
