Warhorse Studios has officially announced its next game, and the team is feeling optimistic.
Fans eagerly awaiting the next installment in the Kingdom Come: Deliverance series won’t have to wait long. Warhorse Studios announced that the next game could be released as early as next year. Rumors about Warhorse’s next project have cast doubt on the future of the franchise. Kingdom Come: Deliverance combines a dense, historically accurate open world with entertaining characters and complex gameplay mechanics. It has been a widely acclaimed RPG since its release in 2018. Most recently, Warhorse Studios released Kingdom Come: Deliverance II in early 2025. This game built upon every element of the original and improved upon it while addressing fans’ main complaints.
Warhorse’s hard work paid off: Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 was a huge critical success and was in the running for Game of the Year, though the title ultimately went to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. A year later, rumors began circulating that Warhorse was developing a game set in the The Lord of the Rings universe. The studio confirmed this during a developer livestream on May 21. However, the studio announced that a new game related to the Kingdom Come: Deliverance series is in the works. Fans are eagerly awaiting further details on the release date and the game’s content.
Warhorse’s communications director, Tobias Stolz-Zwilling, and community manager, Tom Grey, went live to confirm that the next game in the Kingdom Come series will be an open-world RPG expected to release in fiscal year 2027. This means the game is expected to be released between April 2027 and March 2028. Stolz-Zwilling stated that Prokop Jirsa, the lead designer and Warhorse’s new creative director, is leading the project. Meanwhile, Viktor Bocan, design director, is in charge of the Middle-earth game. He was appointed creative director following his work on both KCD projects.
Warhorse Studios was quick to reassure fans that, although the studio now owns the The Lord of the Rings IP rights, Kingdom Come: Deliverance remains a priority. Stolz-Zwilling stated that they will continue to expand the Kingdom Come universe. Let’s not forget that Kingdom Come: Deliverance has always been close to the studio’s heart, and this will remain the case in the future. The studio’s latest developments seem to support this. Along with the announcement of the third game in the series, Warhorse announced a Kingdom Come: Deliverance movie is also in the works. Daniel Vávra, the director of the games, is stepping away from the third installment to work on the film.
