Even an Ex-Sony Boss Doesn’t Get Why Bloodborne Is a PlayStation 4 Exclusive! [VIDEO]

He hasn’t worked at Sony for some time, but he held a high enough position to have insight into what was going on within the company.

More than ten years after its release, Bloodborne remains one of the most popular action RPGs. It was developed by FromSoftware and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Given the game’s enduring popularity under the direction of Hidetaka Miyazaki, it’s puzzling that it remained exclusive to the PlayStation 4. In fact, even former PlayStation head Shuhei Yoshida considers the lack of PlayStation 5 ports and PC remasters a mystery.

In his presentation at CEDEC, Yoshida reflected on his 30-year career, recalling the remarkable games he encountered along the way. Among them was Demon’s Souls, which originally created a rift between FromSoftware and PlayStation due to a lack of initial support. This relationship was eventually mended during the development of Bloodborne. Although Yoshida couldn’t explain why Bloodborne hasn’t been released on the PlayStation 5 yet (which can easily run the original PlayStation 4 version at a high resolution and over 60 FPS) or on PC, the former PlayStation executive didn’t completely dash hopes of returning to Yharnam.

"This title has a massive fan base all over the world. However, a PlayStation 5 version hasn’t been released, right? People point out that PlayStation’s first-party teams keep releasing remasters, so why hasn’t this one been released? Or why hasn’t a PC version come out? I’m asked ‘Why hasn’t it been released?’ all the time, but that remains a mystery. It might be released in the future, or it might not. A sequel might be made, or it might not be. Speaking strictly as a fan, I really hope it comes out," said Yoshida.

Given the game’s extraordinary popularity — so much so that the development of the ShadPS4 PlayStation 4 emulator focused specifically on this game so it could be played on PC at a high resolution of 60 FPS or more, along with other improvements — it’s a mystery why Bloodborne hasn’t been ported or remastered yet. However, FromSoftware likely plays a bigger role in this than Sony does. We’ve learned that Bluepoint Games proposed a remake in 2025, but the Japanese studio rejected it.

Considering how much Miyazaki’s direction shaped Bloodborne, it’s unlikely we’ll see anything new in the series until he is free. That could take a while since he is directing the upcoming The Duskbloods, reportedly the game that FromSoftware has spent the most time developing.
