Enhanced Samsung Food Offers New, More Sophisticated Experiences at IFA 2024

TECH NEWS – Samsung will present the latest features and updates of its customizable, AI-based food and recipe collection platform, Samsung Food, at the IFA 2024 exhibition to celebrate its first anniversary. The app was first introduced at last year’s IFA exhibition and has since been downloaded by over six million users, becoming an essential tool for meal planning and cooking in modern homes. The platform’s most popular features include Recipe Functions, Shopping List, and Meal Planning.

“We are delighted to update the Samsung Food app with new and powerful features that will allow users to get even more out of their meals with the help of our devices,” said Moonhyung Lee, Vice President of Samsung’s Digital Appliances Business and Head of the Customer Experience Group. “In the future, we will continue to develop the platform with a focus on user experiences, using artificial intelligence and other technologies to support the creation of easier, simpler, and healthier meals.”

Personalized Culinary Experiences

Samsung Food is a comprehensive food platform available on various Samsung devices, including home appliances. The premium subscription service, Samsung Food+, enhances the experience by incorporating the user’s health data and goals, providing personalized meal plans with recipe recommendations. The added artificial intelligence now offers users unique features worldwide.

With the introduction of Vision AI technology, the company is making food preparation easier when using the Samsung Food+ app. Users can add products to the Shopping List by simply taking a photo with their smartphone. Thanks to this feature, users of Bespoke refrigerators not equipped with an internal AI Vision Inside camera to recognize food items placed in and removed from the fridge can now easily add new ingredients to the Food List with photos using the Family Hub™ screen[vi].

An additional benefit of the subscription-based Samsung Food+ service is that purchased ingredients are automatically added to the Food List during in-store or online payments, and users can search for recipes based on the contents of the Food List. They receive alerts to consume the food before the individually set expiration date, reducing waste.

Moreover, Samsung Food+ helps achieve sustainable food use practices with meal plans based on the Shopping List. It creates personalized meal plans based on the ingredients on the user’s Shopping List, highlighting foods nearing their expiration date. The new “Search with Your Food List” function displays recipes using ingredients from the Food List at the top of search results, providing users with ideas on what meals they can prepare with the available ingredients.

The app also suggests recipes based on the Food List and recommends adding used ingredients to the Shopping List. This intelligent approach helps maintain stock and reduce food waste while keeping meals fresh and tasty.

Personalized Meal Plans

Samsung Food now supports users with improved options to maintain their health and achieve wellness goals more effectively. The platform creates nutrition-focused meal plans that track and control calorie intake within the daily diet plan. The “Tailored for You” plans provide weekly recipe and snack recommendations based on users’ nutritional needs[viii], chosen diets, and previously preferred recipes. The system tracks macronutrient intake in daily meal plans and allows calorie and macronutrient goals to be customized according to individual health goals. While Samsung Food users can receive recommendations for three days a week, Samsung Food+ subscribers can get suggestions for all seven days, with the smart platform considering the shelf life of ingredients.

Samsung Food is currently available in eight languages across 104 countries, and the company ensures that all updates are made available in the relevant languages and regions.
