Randy Pitchford Compares Himself to The Beatles… Has He Gone Too Far?

Once again, the Gearbox boss shared an interesting thought with the audience: five years ago he burned himself by saying he thought Steam would collapse in five years, and now he’s put himself in the spotlight, but not in a way he thinks is right.

He then went back to the Steam comment recently (and we reported on it) and admitted that he had been full of sh*t and that Randy Pitchford was probably on a similar path again. He made a strange comparison on Twitter because the Risk of Rain 2 DLC, Seekers of the Storm (no longer being worked on by the original developers), and the Borderlands movie were all failures:

“I’ll keep making stuff. I wish everything could be a hit, but it does not work that way. The greatest musical act of all time, The Beatles, had a 25% hit rate. I’m sure every song they recorded was done with love and commitment to the art and belief in the quality of their work. My favorite artists, performers, and entertainers have all done things I didn’t like so much.

That’s cool. When artists have a flop, that’s when they need fans the most to cheer them on and motivate them to keep creating. I don’t know if I’ll ever make something you like again, but wouldn’t it be better for you to have that choice than for artists to never create again after a market failure?”, Pitchford wrote.

The Beatles released 213 songs in their history. 188 of which were original compositions and 22 of which were singles. In the UK, 18 songs reached the top of the charts, and they topped the US Billboard Hot 100 20 times (beaten by Elvis Presley in the UK, but unchallenged in America). During the band’s existence, 14 albums were released, 11 of which topped the US charts.

So how dare Randy Pitchford compare himself to one of the most prominent bands in the music industry?

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
