Harvey Dent Returns?! Check Out the Latest Trailer for Joker 2! [VIDEO]

MOVIE NEWS – A new Joker 2 ad features Harvey Dent in this cinematic universe for the first time.

There is only one month left until the premiere of Joker 2 (officially titled Joker: Folie à Deux). The first image of the other (future) Batman villain who appears in the film has just been presented. In 2019’s Joker sequel, Joaquin Phoenix will reprise his role as Arthur Fleck/The Joker and will be joined by Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn. Even though the first film was sold as a stand-alone film, the original also featured various DC characters such as Thomas Wayne, Alfred Pennyworth and a younger version of Bruce Wayne. Now, the sequel wants to continue this tradition. That’s why it features one of Batman’s most iconic villains, Harvey Dent, aka Two-Face. Before he turned evil, of course.

Warner Bros. has released a new promo for Joker: Folie à Deux via X, and the footage reveals that Industry star Harry Lawtey will play Harvey Dent. The clip shows that it is a younger Harvey Dent who is on the rise in his career. The clip identifies him as a deputy prosecutor. Dent seems to be one of the leading voices indicting Arthur Fleck after his actions in the previous film. He tells the news reporters: “Arthur Fleck is also a monster. He knew exactly what he was doing. His depraved acts of violence led to riots by his followers, and they are still willing to commit acts of violence in his name.” Watch the clip below.

A new version of Two-Face joins Joker 2

Harvey Dent’s role in Joker: Folie à Deux may hint that viewers will see the exact moment he transforms from District Attorney to Two-Face. In the comics and Batman Forever, Dent transforms into Two-Face during a court trial, and it looks like a good part of the Joker sequel will revolve around Arthur Fleck’s trial. Since the Joker is responsible for Dent’s transformation in The Dark Knight, perhaps Folie à Deux will focus on this development. The Joker ended with Arthur’s actions indirectly creating Batman, because someone used his influence to kill Bruce Wayne’s parents.

So now Joker can also be responsible for the creation of Two-Face.

Harvey Dent/Two-Face first appeared in Detective Comics #66 in August 1942. Despite being invented by Batman creators Bob Kane and Bill Finger, the character was initially just a minor villain. He was largely excluded from the Silver Age of comics and was not featured in the 1960 Adam West TV series. In the 1980s and 1990s, the character’s popularity increased significantly. He soon became known as one of Batman’s most iconic and tragic foes.

Harvey Dent was first portrayed in live-action films by Billy Dee Williams in 1989’s Batman. They wanted to make him Two-Face in the sequel, but the role was recast for the 1995 film Batman Forever. Then Tommy Lee Jones took over the role because Warner Bros. wanted a big-name star. Jones’ version of Two-Face was drastically different from the comics as he was much more staged than the tragic figure fans knew. Aaron Eckhart was cast as Harvey Dent in 2008’s The Dark Knight. In a version heavily inspired by The Long Halloween comic. Nicholas D’Agosto recently played Harvey Dent on Fox’s Gotham. Supernatural star Misha Collins played the character on the short-lived Gotham Knights.

Joker: Folie à Deux hits theaters on October 4, 2024.
