After months of rumours and speculation, Apple has unveiled its latest smartphone, the iPhone 16. The new device will be available from September 20, and the price, depending on the model, will be at least $799.

The main character of the event was the new iPhone, but Apple also presented the new Apple Watch Series 10 and AirPods 4. iOS 18, the new operating system, will also be released on September 20 and is available for pre-order from September 13. Apple CEO Tim Cook said that all new products will be equipped with artificial intelligence.

Main features of iPhone 16:

• Eco-friendly design: iPhone 16 is made from 85% recycled materials and aluminium and will be available in five colours: navy blue, teal, pink, white and black.

• Durability: The screen is 50% more durable thanks to the ceramic shield technology, making it water—and dust-resistant.

• Display: 2000 nit brightness and minimum one nit in darkness.

• Size: Available in two sizes: 6.1-inch iPhone 16 and 6.7-inch iPhone Plus.

• New buttons: The action button, familiar from the iPhone 15 Pro models, and the new “Camera control” button allow you to take photos and videos with various commands.

New chip and performance:

• A18 chip: The A18 chip developed for iPhone 16 is twice as fast as the previous one and uses 30% less energy. The 6-core CPU and 5-core GPU increase performance by 40% while consuming 35% less power.

• Gaming experience: The new chip and the heat-dissipating aluminium structure improve game performance by 30%, for example, in the Resident Evil and Assassin’s Creed series.

Camera improvements:

• Camera control: A photo can be taken with a single click, a video can be recorded by pressing and holding the haptic button, and the image can be zoomed and framed with various commands.

• Two cameras: 48 MP primary camera and 12 MP secondary camera with 2x zoom. The new features provide better quality photos even in low light conditions and are compatible with Vision Pro.

iPhone 16 and the role of artificial intelligence

The biggest innovation of the iPhone 16 is artificial intelligence (AI). Apple introduced the capabilities of Apple Intelligence, which are available in four models of the device. These are the first Apple phones to take advantage of AI. AI enables:

• Use Private Cloud Compute to maintain privacy and security.

With ChatGPT integration, Siri also offers real-time translation and math problem-solving.

The A18 Pro chip is faster and more efficient than the base A18, built with 3nm technology and 15% faster than the A17 Pro. The 6-core GPU and CPU improve gaming experience and power efficiency.

The four models of the iPhone 16 family can be pre-ordered from September 13.
