Wanbo Mozart 1 Pro – A Projector Worthy of the Composer’s Name

TECH REVIEW – While televisions have now reached, and in some cases, even surpassed the 100-inch threshold, projectors remain the number one choice for those who want a massive screen at a reasonable price, even up to 120 inches or more. Although the latest TVs undoubtedly offer better picture quality, projectors excel in terms of value for money and screen size, particularly for those seeking sizes over 100 inches. Wanbo, a manufacturer known for its affordable projectors, is aiming to take the market by storm with its latest flagship model, the Mozart 1 Pro.

Founded in 2016 as part of Shenzhen Wanbo Technology Co. Ltd., Wanbo focuses on DLP and single-lens LCD projectors. The company combines innovative design, high-end user experience, and advanced technology, providing a full range of services from research and development to sales and customer support.

Enhanced Features and Premium Experience: What Can the Wanbo Mozart 1 Pro Do?

The Mozart 1 Pro (dark blue) is the upgraded version of the previous Mozart 1 (white) model. Running on Android TV 11.0 with Google Widevine DRM L1 certification, this projector enhances security and delivers native 1920x1080p (Full HD) resolution with support for 4K content. Its 3000:1 contrast ratio and 900 ANSI lumens brightness ensure excellent image quality, while the 90% DCI-P3 color gamut and HDR10 support provide vivid colors and dynamic range. The PixelPro 5.0 closed optical system (IP5X dust protection) employs five layers of high-concentration optical lenses, offering over 30,000 hours of use. With a 1.2 throw ratio, the Mozart 1 Pro can produce a 150-inch screen from just 4 meters away.

For audio, the projector is equipped with two 8W Hi-Fi speakers with a 660cc acoustic cavity and independent DSP amplifier, delivering high-quality sound. The device also includes 2.4G/5G Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0 for wireless connectivity, along with three cooling fans, 2GB DDR3 RAM, 16GB eMMC storage, and a range of ports, including HDMI v1.4, USB 2.0, and a 3.5mm audio jack. One notable feature is the pre-installed Netflix app, making it one of the few projectors to offer such convenience. It also comes with auto-focus, auto-keystone correction, auto-screen fit, intelligent obstacle avoidance, and manual zoom for a smooth user experience.

Elegant Packaging and First Impressions

The Wanbo Mozart 1 Pro comes in a sleek, white box with a picture of the projector prominently displayed, highlighting the elegance and modern design of the device. Key product features are listed on the sides of the box, while the back showcases an additional image of the projector, reinforcing its professional appeal. Inside the package, you’ll find the projector itself, a power supply, a power cable, a remote control, a certificate of approval, and a user manual, emphasizing the user-friendly experience.

In terms of dimensions, the Mozart 1 Pro is compact for its class, measuring 223 mm tall, 209 mm deep, and 176 mm wide, and weighing just 3.3 kg, making it highly portable. The illuminated power button featuring the Wanbo logo is both stylish and functional. The five-layer high-concentration optical lenses are completely sealed, providing IP5X dust protection to extend the lamp’s life, which Wanbo claims can last over 30,000 hours.

The bass reflex port on the left enhances the audio experience, while the perforated back improves airflow for better cooling. The connectivity options include USB 2.0, HDMI v1.4, and a 3.5mm audio jack, making it easy to connect various devices. The adjustable stand offers 7 degrees of tilt, giving users the flexibility to position the screen at the perfect angle.

The remote control may not boast innovative features, but it includes all the essential buttons for easy navigation. Its minimalist design and logical button layout allow quick access to frequently used options. The built-in smart features, such as auto-focus and obstacle avoidance, further enhance ease of use.

Advanced Software and Intelligent Features

The Wanbo Mozart 1 Pro runs on Android TV 11, providing a clean, user-friendly interface. A standout feature is the pre-installed Netflix app, a rarity among projectors. In addition, users can access the Google Play Store to download more apps, including Google Assistant for voice control.

Android TV 11 allows users to adjust the resolution and color settings, as well as enable or disable the S/PDIF output. Features like auto-focus, auto-keystone correction, and 4-point manual correction are easily accessible via the remote control. The projector also includes intelligent obstacle avoidance, which ensures that the projected image remains free from obstructions, along with a zoom function for quickly adjusting image size based on user preferences.

The Mozart 1 Pro supports 4K input, enabling users to play high-resolution content, although it downscales to 1080p for display. Still, this provides excellent visual quality, especially on large screens. Additionally, the projector includes a game mode that reduces lag, making it a great choice for gamers.

Picture Quality and Performance

The Wanbo Mozart 1 Pro delivers impressive picture quality with its 900 ANSI lumens and 1080p native resolution. In tests, the projector was able to produce a 150-inch screen with crisp and clear details, even in well-lit environments. However, as with most mid-range projectors, details in darker scenes may be harder to distinguish, especially in high-contrast films like Dune or The Batman. Nonetheless, the color reproduction remains strong, with brighter scenes appearing vivid and lifelike. The motion handling is also smooth, which is especially important for action films or sports.

The 4K input support allows for playback of high-resolution content, though the projector outputs it in 1080p, still delivering excellent quality for a mid-range device. The audio performance is also noteworthy, thanks to the two 8W Hi-Fi speakers, which produce rich bass that enhances atmospheric sound effects in movies and games. Mid and high frequencies are well-balanced, ensuring that dialogue and other details are clear.

The 38 dB fan noise is relatively low, though it can be noticeable in quiet environments. However, it’s not loud enough to disrupt viewing.

Shortcomings and Room for Improvement

While the Wanbo Mozart 1 Pro is a well-designed mid-range projector, it does have some shortcomings. The biggest challenge is handling dark scenes. Despite its 900 ANSI lumens brightness and 3000:1 contrast ratio, details in shadowy areas can become obscured, which may be disappointing for viewers of films like The Batman or Dune, where contrast is key.

Although the 1080p resolution is sufficient for most users, many competitors now offer native 4K projectors at a similar price point. The Mozart 1 Pro can accept 4K signals but downscales them to 1080p, which may leave some users wanting more in terms of image clarity.

Some users have also reported issues with the Chromecast function, particularly with screen mirroring from smartphones, which can be frustrating for those who rely on this feature frequently.

Another drawback is the remote control’s response time. There can be a noticeable delay between pressing a button and seeing the action on screen, which can be particularly irritating during fast-paced navigation.

Is It a Projector Fit for Mozart?

Overall, the Wanbo Mozart 1 Pro is an elegant, well-rounded mid-range projector that offers great value for money. It’s an ideal choice for users who aren’t chasing the latest tech but want a reliable, feature-rich device. The color reproduction and motion handling are impressive, though its performance in dark scenes and the slightly delayed response time could hinder the user experience for some. However, for those looking for an affordable projector with a wide range of automatic adjustment options, the Mozart 1 Pro is certainly worth considering.
