[SOP 2024] We Know When Metro Awakening Is Coming – New VR Game Details Revealed! [VIDEO]

Awakening, the Metro game from Vertigo Games and 4A Games, is coming exclusively to VR devices – PS5 and PC.

The Metro saga has already received a few games – not to mention books – but the series, based on the works of Dmitri Glukhovsky, has made such an impact that 4A Games is not about to let it go quickly. With a bright future for the powerful sci-fi franchise, the next step for post-apocalyptic Russia through virtual reality will be Metro Awakening, which the renowned Vertigo studio is developing. And the game finally has a release date!

While 4A Games is still working on the upcoming Metro 4, the baton has been passed to Arizona Sunshine VR creators Vertigo Games, a veteran in the virtual reality space.

They’re looking to leverage PS VR 2 and Meta Quest 2 for a project that could, in reality, feed the PlayStation market and its VR, which has been ailing in recent months. Whatever the case, Metro Awakening is promised to be just around the corner. The game will be released on 7 November 2024.

Will Artyom not be the protagonist of Awakening?!

It’s true that Artyom has been the protagonist of the saga for three episodes. But the new episode is a kind of prequel. We will follow the unknown survivor of the end of the world in 2028, a few years after the cataclysm. We’ll travel through the underground, the suburbs, and the surface of Moscow, fleeing ghosts, survivors, and infected animals in search of our protagonist’s wife and the medicine she so desperately needs.

In this case, and as we’re talking about a studio well-versed in VR, the Dutch studio focuses on visuals. Real-time reflexes, action, and first-person hand-to-hand and ranged combat all play an essential role, but stealth is given more emphasis than ever before. As a virtual reality game, this limits the action somewhat but expands the possibilities for tactical and silent approaches.
