Will the PlayStation 5 Pro Enhance PlayStation 4 Games?

Sony’s half-generation console update won’t just boost the resolution and frame rate of current-generation games.

We’ve already heard that more than sixty games on the PlayStation 5 Pro will receive an update to take advantage of the more powerful hardware. Supported titles include Alan Wake 2 and Electronic Arts’ Madden NFL 25, although there was already a game with that name in 2013, making this naming convention rather silly… But we could also mention titles that have not yet been released. These include Dragon Age: The Veilguard and Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii.

It’s not just PlayStation 5 games that will run better on PlayStation 5 Pro, but PlayStation 4 titles too. Sony’s Senior Product Manager Toshimasa Aoki told the Japanese publication 4Gamer that the frame rate of PS4 games will improve on the PlayStation 5 Pro. He called this feature Image Quality Boost, and it will be possible to turn it off on the PS5 Pro. However, it should be added that only games with variable frame rates will see an improvement, but it should still provide a slight visual tune-up for the most beautiful PlayStation 4 games (such as The Order: 1886).

PlayStation 5 Pro has already received positive comments from many developers. Martin Griffiths from Hello Games is one of them (as we reported), but there are many more examples. In any case, developers have welcomed Sony’s announcement, and the console may well be a key player in the development of PlayStation 6 (a topic that has been in the news).

The PlayStation 5 Pro will be available from November 7th. The price will be 800 euros in Europe (or 700 dollars in the United States), and this does not include the Blu-ray drive or the vertical stand.
