A few years ago with the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series, we saw wealthier people trying to cash in on the desperate quests of others, but now we’re seeing it with games?

We may have encountered the scalpers ourselves. Suppose there is a product that is in demand. It may have been snapped up before we were ready to buy one. Then we see that it has appeared on an e-commerce platform, but at several times the original price. Now, this sort of thing was very common years ago with current generation consoles, where there was a lack of supply and demand balance due to supply chain constraints.

Michael Douse, Larian’s publishing director, took to Twitter to express his displeasure at the scalpers taking advantage of the collector’s edition of Baldur’s Gate 3: “I hate scalpers, man. I understand how commodities work, but this Collector’s Edition isn’t a commodity, it’s meant to make someone happy, not rich. If you buy it to trade, you’re just making someone sad.”

The attached picture also shows someone in the UK trying to cash in on the Collector’s Edition. The guy trying to find out how many people in the UK are buying the Baldur’s Gate 3 Collector’s Edition for £2,900, which is about $3700! There are some listings that don’t include the game and DLC. It’s amazing how some people can’t get off their butts. In comparison, Larian took a much more lifelike approach with another release, and many could learn a serious lesson from that.

The Baldur’s Gate 3 Deluxe Edition was released in waves and is still available on Larian’s website. While it doesn’t give you the tangible bonuses of the Collector’s Edition, it’s currently the only way to get your hands on a disk copy of Larian’s hit game…
