Superman News: James Gunn Talked About the Trailer; Nicholas Hoult Discusses His Character! [VIDEO]

MOVIE NEWS – James Gunn’s dropped comment suggests we won’t have long to wait; Nicholas Hoult has spoken out about one of Superman’s enemies – his own character…

We’re getting closer to getting our first look at the DC Universe’s new Superman, as DC Studios co-chairman and director James Gunn has given fans a production update. The film will kick off the new DCU cinematic outings. Plot details are being kept under wraps for now, but the new film’s star-studded cast includes David Corenswet (Superman), Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luthor), Milly Alcock (Supergirl), Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Wendell Pierce (Perry White), Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardner), Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl) and more. The film wrapped filming in July of this year, and fans eagerly await the first trailer.

James Gunn confirmed on Threads that he’s already working on the first Superman trailer. When a fan asked if the trailer was ready yet, the filmmaker gave a short but promising answer:

“It’s not. I worked on it this weekend.”

While the news may come as a disappointment to some who can’t contain their excitement for the new film, it’s typical of Gunn to take his time on the project to ensure the highest quality. When filming wrapped in July, Gunn addressed the film’s long post-production window, saying he wanted to give the VFX artists enough time to get everything right.

Gunn also talked about the Superman trailer at New York Comic Con earlier this month. His statement gave fans more clues about the timeline for the Superman trailer. “We’re deep in the process of editing,” the director said during a Creature Commandos panel. Gunn also praised David Corenswet’s portrayal of Clark Kent/Superman, saying he’s “going to blow people the f*ck away.” Finally, the director teased the trailer, saying:

“It won’t be too long before we see a trailer, but also it won’t be soon.”

Nicholas Hoult Says “Something Special” Is in the works for Lex Luthor in the new Superman

Nicholas Hoult has revealed what fans can expect from his version of Lex Luthor in James Gunn’s upcoming Superman movie. Although Hoult auditioned for the title role, he ended up getting the role of the Man of Steel’s arch-nemesis, Lex Luthor. Lex Luthor has been played by a number of actors, from Gene Hackman in the original Christopher Reeve-starring Superman films to Jessie Eisenberg in the DCEU. Perhaps most memorable was Michael Rosenbaum in Smallville. With so many variations of the iconic villain, Hoult’s Luthor needs to stand out from the crowd, and the actor understands that.

At AFI Fest, Hoult spoke briefly with Deadline and was asked about his role as Lex Luthor in James Gunn’s new DCU. He said it’s a little too early to talk about it, but he praised the director’s vision for Superman and the DC Universe. Hoult noted that he’s a fan of both Superman and Lex Luthor, and said they did something special with him. He said:

“I think it’s a little too early to say what’s different about my Lex Luthor. You know I just loved working with James Gunn. I think he’s an incredible director and has such a great sense of that world, that story, those characters. I just put my trust in him. I’m a fan of Superman and Lex Luthor as a character, so hopefully we’ve done something special with it that people enjoy,” he added.

Hoult’s comments certainly align with what audiences have seen so far. From the inclusion of Krypto, the superdog, to the various DC heroes co-starring with Superman, this film will be drastically different from any previous adaptation. It looks like it will feature more comic book elements than ever before. This likely means fans will get to see Lex Luthor in his iconic suit of armour from the comics, which none of his live-action interpretations has worn before. Hoult’s Luthor is not only an intellectual opponent for Superman but also a physical one who can go head-to-head with him.
