MOVIE NEWS – Robert Downey Jr. is coming back to the MCU soon, but… will we still see him in the saga in the future without needing him for the project?

Like many other actors, such as Tom Hanks, Robert Downey Jr. is sceptical of the industry’s use of new AI-based imaging tools. In particular, he worries that the day may come when an actor can be digitally “resurrected” and used as an attraction in a movie, which we actually already see from time to time.

As for Marvel, Robert Downey Jr. doesn’t have to worry just yet

The Marvel Studios star is aware of this possibility and took the opportunity to make it clear to the industry in a podcast that he will look after his rights even after his death. His statements were picked up by Variety:

“To go back to the MCU, I am not worried about them hijacking my character’s soul because there’s like three or four guys and gals who make all the decisions there anyway and they would never do that to me, with or without me (…) But (which may happen in the future), I would like to state here that I intend to sue all future executives just on spec. (Even if I die), my law firm will still be very active.”

Downey Jr. admits it’s not a question that’s giving him sleepless nights right now. But we can’t forget that a year and a half ago, there was a big strike by the actors’ union, SAG-AFTRA, which, among other things, demanded more protection against possible future excesses caused by artificial intelligence tools and all other similar tools to the union.

In a few years, Robert Downey Jr. will be seen again in Marvel Studios’ MCU, Avengers: Doomsday, where he will play Doctor Doom instead of Iron Man. Hopefully, one or two closer projects will slip in for the popular star in the meantime.
