MOVIE NEWS – Tom Holland and Austin Butler star in real-life racing drama on Amazon.

Two of the most sought-after young actors currently working in Hollywood are teaming up for a new thriller at Amazon’s MGM studio! Tom Holland and Austin Butler shift into next gear with American Speed, a film based on a true story involving race car racing and drug smuggling.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon MGM Studios has acquired distribution rights to American Speed, which will star Holland and Butler and be produced by Oppenheimer’s Charles Roven through its Atlas Entertainment banner. Based on a true story by Dan Wiedenhaupt, the project follows the racing trio of the Whittington brothers, two of whom became embroiled in the International Motor Sport Association (IMSA) scandal that led beyond the racetrack to the world of money laundering, tax evasion and drug smuggling. It is not yet known which brother each actor will play.

In the world of young Hollywood, Holland and Butler represent the pinnacle of a generation that also includes names such as Timothée Chalamet, Florence Pugh, Zendaya, and Anya Taylor-Joy. Many industry players tout this set as the future of the film industry. Holland and Butler’s involvement in a joint project could be a big success on several levels if served and promoted well.

Tom Holland and Austin Butler have already planned several new projects

Tom Holland has been quite busy lately, landing more and more roles after taking a break from Spider-Man: No Return and Apple TV+’s The Crowded Room. He focused on his private life, mostly sober, which led to the founding of the non-alcoholic beer brand Bero. On the creative side, the actor will reportedly begin shooting next summer on the fourth Spider-Man MCU film, which is slated for a July 2026 release. He’s also helming Christopher Nolan’s next Secret Secret project with Matt Damon.

With other rumoured films, such as the Fred Astaire biopic and Uncharted 2, Holland seems ready to begin the next phase of his career.

Austin Butler is currently filming Darren Aronofsky’s thriller Caught Stealing. The actor performed impressively in the role of Feyd-Rautha in Dune: Part Two. This was followed by Jeff Nichols’ The Bikeriders, which slipped a bit before Focus Features could present it. Butler has also been involved in TV projects, playing Gale Cleven in the miniseries Masters of the Air, an Apple TV+ war drama, being the spiritual successor to 2001’s Band of Brothers and 2010’s The Pacific. Butler also joined Ari Aster’s next project, Eddington. It’s a western that also stars Joaquin Phoenix, Emma Stone and Luke Grimes. A24 will distribute the film.
