Dungeons & Dragons: New Game Adaptation Announced, But No Movie in Sight!

After the huge success of Baldur’s Gate 3 (based on Dungeons & Dragons), Hasbro has put its money (and not just figuratively!) on the gaming industry.

This year marks the fiftieth anniversary of the Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) franchise, and its status is “good”, and that’s more than enough to describe it. Wizards of the Coast also recently released this year’s Player’s Guide and Game Master’s Guide (remember, this is a tabletop RPG!), and the Monster Manual is scheduled for release on February 18th. Game adaptations, on the other hand, are what Hasbro will be working on, as Larian’s Baldur’s Gate 3 has earned the IP owner $90 million in the six months since its release.

Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks confirmed to Bloomberg that another D&D game is in the works. Let’s sum it up. First, there’s the co-op game Starbreeze, announced last December, which is coming in 2026 and is set in Waterdeep, one of the largest cities in Faerűn. There’s also a VR game announced in January by Resolution Games. And then there’s a Unreal Engine 5 project at Invoke (formerly known as Tuque, the studio behind Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance), and this one may have some PvP gameplay, according to a job posting. These will be joined by the new project.

But it’s not just D&D that Hasbro is working on. Exodus is in development at Archetype Entertainment (starring Matthew Conaughey and backed by ex-BioWare writers and designers), a G.I. Joe Snake Eyes is in development at Atomic Arcade, and a horror game is in development at Skeleton Key. There’s also a new Magic: The Gathering project in the works with the Commander format, and it’s not the same as Magic: The Gathering Arena. Starting in 2026, Hasbro will invest $100-150 million per year, and the company is investing more than $1 billion.

The downside of this will be a reduction in movie adaptations. Hasbro will no longer co-finance new movies and TV series.
