Bloober Team’s remake, released a month and a half ago, has a lot of interesting secrets, and the same can be said about the original game developed by Team Silent.
The remake stays pretty close to the original, but there are some extras that the Polish developers have added. When you go to areas where puzzles or other events were in the original, you can hear them in the form of echoes with a little VHS distortion. If you collect all the Polaroids, you’ll have what you need to decipher a secret message. But there is another hidden message in the remake.
If you watch the televisions in town, you’ll see a message that looks like a numbers station. Someone has carefully cleaned up the background noise to turn the message into Morse code. At Brookhaven Hospital, the TVs play an endless message covering the phrase “again and again”. The Polaroid message says “you’ve been here for two decades”, which could confirm that Silent Hill 2 Remake is a sequel to the original, and James is experiencing the same events in a time loop. Except that this would invalidate the Maria ending…
Another TV message was also deciphered, heard in the Wood Side Apartments: “Why did you do it James? This is a clear reference to the guilt that James denies, and was often alluded to during the play. There is a poster that talks about the symptoms of depression, and it has the phrase “or guilt” on it, but when James reads it, he doesn’t mention it. This is further evidence that James is trying to sweep his actions under the rug, but to no avail.
It’s likely that there are many more secrets in Silent Hill 2 Remake, and it’s possible that there will be some that the audience will only find out years from now.
