PlayStation 6 Isn’t the Only Next Generation PS Console We’re Getting?!

TECH NEWS – It looks like the latest handheld craze has caught up with Sony so that we can expect more than just the PlayStation 6 in the future…

The PlayStation 6 will likely be a severe blow to our wallets when it comes out. However, it seems that Sony is preparing another treat for PS game lovers. According to leaked news, the Japanese company is also planning a next-gen handheld console.

We already know that the device will be different from the PlayStation Portal, which only allows game streaming from the PS5. This is a similar move to the Xbox, as Xbox head Phil Spencer confirmed that a handheld console is in the works, but it will not be released for a few years.

Nintendo is already present in the handheld market with the Nintendo Switch, and the leaked plans for the Nintendo Switch 2 seem to confirm that the company will not change its stance on portable gaming.

Hardware leaker zhangzhonghao shared the information online, stating that PlayStation is still working with AMD, and that future consoles should be backward compatible with the PlayStation 5, and possibly the PlayStation 4 as well.

This sounds like a high-tech version of the PlayStation Vita, but apparently one that works with the existing PlayStation game library, rather than requiring its own.

Given the popularity and success of Valve’s Steam Deck, it’s obvious why game companies like PlayStation and Xbox are now frantically trying to come up with their own portable gaming hardware.

Whether Sony’s portable console can compete remains to be seen. Especially since many of their games, such as God Of War and Marvel’s Spider-Man, are already available on PC, so all you need to do is get a Steam Deck.

Obviously, leaks should be treated with caution. At the time of writing, nothing has been confirmed by Sony, and it will likely be a few more years before we see anything announced about the PlayStation 6 – let alone an utterly separate console…
