The new entry in the Terminator franchise has been unveiled with an age rating, but we don’t know much about what it will be yet… and it probably won’t be officially unveiled this year.
The game is called Terminator 2D: No Fate, and according to the Australian rating it’s the work of Reef Entertainment. This seems a bit interesting, as this company could be considered more of a publisher than a developer. The last time this company published was Terminator: Resistance, a relatively decent FPS, and that game was not developed by them, but by Teyon, who recovered from the Rambo game adaptation (and the game even had a reference to Rambo’s adventures!).
Terminator 2D: No Fate is said to be a cross-generation game, so it will be released not only for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC, but also for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. Since the game’s release date is 2025 at the earliest, Nintendo Switch 2 could be a possibility until then (and while it’s not an official name, there are many things and rumors suggesting that the big N will indeed operate the post-Switch platform under that name). However, both the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series will be available from November 2020, which would make this cross-generational period five years old…
As Terminator 2D: No Fate has not yet been announced, we can only speculate as to what it might be related to. In 2019, the movie Terminator: Dark Fate will be released in 2019, which could be related to it, and since the game’s name includes the term 2D, it’s almost certain that it will be two-dimensional, so it could be a side-scrolling platformer or shooter (the latter being a reference to Contra, which also recently got a new episode).
The only question now is when Reef Entertainment will announce this game, and if they will actually develop it themselves…
