TECH NEWS – The card running on RDNA 4 architecture (which would directly copy the naming scheme of its rival) will be able to compete with its direct competitor.
AMD has revealed a comparison between its own card, the Radeon RX 9070 XT, and its direct competitor, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti. Both were tested at 4K resolution with ultra graphics presets in several games with ray tracing (RT) turned on and off. The results are very encouraging for the reds. The native 4K Ultra tests show that in several games (Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Ghost of Tsushima) the RTX 5070 Ti has at least a double-digit performance percentage advantage, but in a few titles the RTX 5070 Ti was the stronger.
At 4K, with RT, without upscaling, the RX 9070 XT has an 8% advantage in Far Cry 6 and 2% in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, but in most games with RT (especially Cyberpunk 2077) the RTX 5070 Ti has the edge. Overall, the RX 9070 XT is only 2% behind its rival in over 30 games, while having the same amount of VRAM, but being $150 cheaper!
According to AMD, AIB-tuned (OC) models can achieve TBPs of up to 340W, which is 12% below the reference’s 304W. Overall, they’re 2% more powerful than the RTX 5070 Ti, but you’ll have to pay more for them, but they’ll still be cheaper than Nvidia’s. (Especially since they’re only available in the US for 15-25% more than the MSRP).
The last AMD comparison is worth highlighting. The Radeon RX 9070 XT has a 23% better price/performance (performance/dollar) ratio compared to the 5070 Ti, but that’s measured at the recommended retail price, so it’s even worse off than the actual price of the “green” card, which supports DLSS 4 MFG, which can generate more frames and is better at ray tracing.
AMD’s aggressive strategy may still work.
