Grand Theft Auto VI: A Publisher Is Preparing for Its Release Date! [VIDEO]

While nearly everyone is scrambling to avoid Rockstar and Take-Two’s massive title (which will likely cost 80, 90 or even 100 dollars), Devolver Digital is going the opposite way.

It was already reported that Grand Theft Auto VI would be delayed, and developers at Rockstar have known for some time that the originally planned fall 2025 release wasn’t realistic. While other publishers are steering clear of that launch window, Devolver Digital has decided to embrace it and have its own “Doom Crossing” moment — a reference to the 2020 meme-fueled collision of DOOM Eternal and Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Over the weekend, in response to the GTA VI date announcement, Devolver tweeted: “You can’t escape us. May 26, 2026 it is then.” The publisher already hinted at this in March, promising to release a title on the exact same day Rockstar and Take-Two launch their long-awaited blockbuster. As of now, they haven’t revealed what that game will be.

Devolver Digital has long cultivated a rebellious reputation, and there’s some logic to launching something on the same day as a cultural juggernaut. Just like Barbie and Oppenheimer premiered together, or DOOM Eternal and Animal Crossing dropped side by side, contrast can work in your favor. That might benefit whatever secret title Devolver has up its sleeve.

The publisher is known for titles like Cult of the Lamb, Death’s Door, The Talos Principle, Gris, and The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood, so it wouldn’t be surprising if they really do have something lined up. Enter the Gungeon 2 is currently planned for 2026 — maybe that’s the one — but fans are hoping for a Hotline Miami 3, which hasn’t been announced yet.
