While both the public and the gaming industry eagerly await Grand Theft Auto VI (which will reappear in today’s headlines), Rockstar has found another way to keep the franchise in the spotlight.
Rumors suggest that Grand Theft Auto IV might be getting a remaster, but fans have been disappointed to learn that it could be far less impressive than originally imagined. The delay of Grand Theft Auto VI was already a major blow to franchise fans, but it is now official: Rockstar and Take-Two won’t launch the stunning-looking title on PlayStation 5/Xbox Series this fall, but rather on May 26, 2026. Still, the delay clearly serves the goal of delivering a high-quality experience. The release of the second trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI after the delay announcement is no longer particularly relevant.
Grand Theft Auto 4 port to PS4/Switch might be coming later this year according to Tez2 the port has been in development for a year now. Might be a similar situation to the RDR1 port back in 2023.

But then came the rumors that Grand Theft Auto IV, which launched in 2008 on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and later on PC, might be re-released to serve as a placeholder for Grand Theft Auto VI. However, it’s now being said that this might not even be a true remaster, but just a re-release that’s only marginally better than the 17-year-old original. Sure, it may feature a few updates, but the inclusion of all DLCs and support for HD resolution is hardly enough to impress today’s gamers.
Reactions on Reddit have been mixed. Some are begging for 60 FPS on PlayStation 5, similar to how the 2010 release of Red Dead Redemption ran on Sony’s current-gen console. Others welcomed the rumor, hopeful that it would help the game reach a broader audience. Of course, none of this is official—it’s still just a rumor…
