MOVIE NEWS – I’m also saddened that we won’t get a season 3 of Andor, but that doesn’t mean we won’t have plenty of Star Wars to look forward to in the coming months. No more Andor? It’s okay: Ahsoka, Darth Maul, Japan’s best anime studios, The Mandalorian, and Ryan Gosling are coming to the rescue.
No one’s really surprised Andor won’t return for a third season—we all know how Cassian’s journey ends in *Rogue One*. But what really stings is saying goodbye to a series that proved *Star Wars* could be something more than just nostalgia and lightsabers. With its layered storytelling, morally torn characters, and slow-burn pacing, *Andor* stood out as a unique and mature entry in the galaxy far, far away.
Still, all is not lost. Although the final episodes aired on May 14, 2025, *Star Wars* fans won’t be left staring longingly out the window with a John Williams score echoing in their heads. In fact, Disney+ is prepping a new wave of adventures ready to blast into hyperspace.
More Stories, More Stars
First up: *Ahsoka* season 2. Rosario Dawson will return as the fan-favorite ex-Jedi created by Dave Filoni. Filming began back in April, and if the stars align, we’ll see new episodes by the end of 2026. Filoni’s interconnected vision places *Ahsoka* at the heart of his live-action universe on Disney+, especially leading into the upcoming *The Mandalorian & Grogu* movie. The second season is expected to resolve the cliffhangers from the first and set the stage for what’s to come.
In the meantime, *Tales of the Underworld* just dropped and made a dramatic entrance. This gritty miniseries shines a light on the galaxy’s criminal underbelly, bringing back infamous characters like Cad Bane and Asajj Ventress. While *Andor* dissected politics and rebellion, *Tales* dives into moral gray zones through beloved anti-heroes who live on the edge of law and legend.
*Star Wars: Visions* also returns with season 3 on October 29, 2025. This anthology continues to fuse *Star Wars* lore with the style and emotion of top-tier Japanese anime. Each episode stands alone, each one a distinct artistic vision. Purists might not love them all, but that’s the point—it celebrates creative freedom and diversity in storytelling.
Coming in 2026, *Maul: Shadow Lord* promises a deep dive into one of the saga’s most fascinating villains. Darth Maul, long underused in the films, has been rebuilt through *The Clone Wars* and *Rebels* into a brooding, driven figure. This new animated series will expand his criminal legacy and introduce new lore, while staying true to his dark essence.
The Movies Strike Back
It’s not just Disney+ carrying the franchise forward. The theatrical side of *Star Wars* is also heating up. *The Mandalorian and Grogu* movie is set for 2026 and aims to tie together threads from the series into a big-screen spectacle. It’s a smart move to reward longtime fans and rekindle the theatrical magic of *Star Wars* with a story built for the cinema.
Beyond that, Lucasfilm is already developing a new Rey Skywalker adventure and has announced *Starfighter*, starring Ryan Gosling and helmed by the director of *Deadpool & Wolverine*.
This resurgence is accompanied by a strategic shift. After lukewarm responses to *Obi-Wan Kenobi*, *The Book of Boba Fett*, and *The Acolyte*, Disney and Lucasfilm are pumping the brakes. With series budgets hitting $200–300 million, the focus now is on quality over quantity—smaller slates, stronger vision, and less oversaturation. The galaxy deserves no less.
