S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Legends of the Zone Trilogy Remastered: The Fan Negativity Worked

After receiving many negative reviews on Steam for its remastered games, Ukrainian studio GSC Game World listened to the criticism.

Shortly after the release, a flood of negative reviews on Steam pushed the game into the “Mostly Negative” category, but GSC Game World released update 1.0.1. It promises to fix multi-platform issues, retain settings, and address missing geometry on several levels. This quote will be key. When the modernized version of the trilogy was released, fans complained about blurry graphics and settings that were forgotten in games. Most importantly, they complained about the removal of Russian voice acting and the deletion of several Soviet landmarks.

GSC Game World appears to have reversed its position on these last two issues, as the 1.0.1 update addresses them. The patch restored the monument/sign that had been deleted in front of the Chernobyl power plant. It reads in Russian, “ChAES, in the name of V. I. Lenin.” Fans were delighted to see its return, and one popular post in the franchise’s Reddit subforum is titled “They listened!” The poster acknowledges that the Enhanced Edition still has some issues but is glad that the developers are working on fixing the game and not ignoring feedback.

Another commenter pointed out that these landmarks are part of the Zone; the territory is stuck in time and history. There is no reason to remove them. Indeed, the Soviet Union still existed in 1986, so the depiction of communist monuments adds to the area’s authenticity in the games. Fans were missing this missing geometric commentary that the developers added to the trilogy, but understandably so, given that the Russian-Ukrainian war had been going on for over three years and had affected them.

GSC Game World promised that they would address the feedback and work to resolve the most critical issues because they want our return to the Zone to be special.
