Players are calling it “necro-porn” because while they’ve fallen in love with Indiana Jones and Wolfenstein, the Swedish team has just canceled a new game. According to a former MachineGames artist, the studio canceled a project in 2024—raising fears that it might have been Wolfenstein 3.
MachineGames, the Swedish studio known for reviving the Wolfenstein series and creating the new Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, is making headlines not for announcing a new game—which fans would have loved—but for what it never became. A former employee’s resume has revealed the existence of a parallel project that was canceled before it was ever publicly unveiled. Now, fans are wondering if it was the rumored Wolfenstein 3 or something entirely different.
The canceled project: Wolfenstein 3 or a different title?
According to the resume of Ayagaure Sánchez Dieppa, who worked at MachineGames from 2016 on Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus and Youngblood, and later served as lead artist on the Indiana Jones project, his LinkedIn profile mentions a “cancelled project.” This title, which was being developed alongside The Great Circle, was ultimately scrapped between 2023 and 2024 when the team wrapped up production.
Such decisions are not uncommon in the industry, especially these days. Internal cancellations—particularly of unannounced projects—are typical adjustments to schedules, budgets, or creative shifts.
Nevertheless, the news has sparked curiosity among players about what could have been: a new title or a sequel from one of Bethesda’s most respected studios. In the case of MachineGames, the Swedes put Wolfenstein on hold six years ago after the lukewarm reception of the Youngblood spin-off, starring BJ Blazkowicz’s daughters.
Indiana Jones could be the studio’s next big hit
While Wolfenstein has been the studio’s flagship, it hasn’t been their only focus. MachineGames’ love for classic shooters also led them to work on Quake: Dimension of the Machine and Call of the Machine remasters. So it’s possible that the canceled project was related to one of these beloved universes.
For now, neither MachineGames nor Bethesda has commented on the matter. All signs point to the studio continuing to establish itself within the Xbox ecosystem with high-profile releases like Indiana Jones, which—according to Phil Spencer—could become a major new franchise.
