Splinter Cell Remake: Will Ubisoft Reveal More Soon?

Although the French publisher is not in a good financial position (and that’s an understatement), perhaps Ubisoft, led by Yves Guillemot, will finally make a deal with Sam Fisher.

Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming quoted Ubisoft’s tweet hinting at more Splinter Cell Remake news. He claims to have seen the remake and says it looks impressive. He added that he hopes to hear more about it soon. It’s about time because, in the early 2000s, Splinter Cell was one of Ubisoft’s main franchises (before Assassin’s Creed existed).

Henderson has leaked Ubisoft announcements before their official unveiling before. His comments about Ubisoft’s first mention of Splinter Cell may be an attempt to generate fan chatter around Summer Game Fest or a similar event. Alternatively, it could be a subtle hint that an official announcement is imminent, and he’s being cautious not to spoil the surprise. What exactly was Henderson referring to with Ubisoft? The French publisher posted this picture of Sam Fisher on Twitter.

Let’s clarify what this is. Anyone who played the original Splinter Cell in 2002 will recognize that Sam Fisher didn’t look like this in that game. This image is from a later game: Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, released in 2005. They could have chosen an image that was even harder to recognize! For example, they could have chosen a marketing image from Splinter Cell: Conviction (2007), before the game was rebooted. Originally, Sam Fisher was long-haired and bearded in that episode!

Perhaps we’ll see a Splinter Cell remake during Summer Game Fest. However, it’s true that Ubisoft isn’t listed as one of the 60+ partners, a number given by organizer Geoff Keighley. There are only 57 partners listed on the website. Something doesn’t add up here. We’ll see more soon…
