Xbox Game Pass: Price Hike on the Horizon? Microsoft Is Preparing to Raise Prices!

There’s a good reason why Black Ops 7 will be on PS4 and Xbox One. It’s very easy to understand and PlayStation just proved it. Call of Duty Black Ops 7 could open pre-orders from June 20.

A Game Pass price increase is coming, and it seems inevitable. A popular cloud gaming engineer has discovered that Xbox is preparing to announce it. Hidden in the source code of an Xbox website, Microsoft is apparently ready to notify users of a Game Pass price hike.

Xbox Game Pass: The Value Champion Faces a Price Bump?

Xbox Game Pass is one of the best values in gaming, offering over 400 games and millions of subscribers with hundreds of hours of entertainment. But in this industry, every product or service can face adjustments or price hikes—and it looks like Game Pass is next. After the recent price hike for Xbox hardware, attention now shifts to services.

RedPhx, a well-known cloud gaming engineer and the creator of the Better xCloud project, found new code on the Xbox Cloud Gaming website. The platform has added a notification called “Subscription Price Increase,” meaning Xbox is gearing up for a Game Pass price hike. This suggests Microsoft could announce higher prices in the coming weeks.

For context, RedPhx is the author of Better xCloud, an open-source extension for browsers like Chrome and Edge that improves the Xbox Cloud Gaming experience: lowering latency, offering visual upgrades, customizing controls, modifying the UI, and tracking stats. It’s not an official Microsoft app, but a project made for cloud gaming fans and requires manual setup.

The Various Tiers of Xbox Game Pass

RedPhx is well-known in the community for uncovering hidden features or incoming changes—like this price increase. The last Xbox Game Pass price hike happened in July 2024, when the Standard tier (€12.99), Ultimate (€17.99), Core (€6.99), and PC Game Pass (€11.99) were introduced. There are now several tiers of Xbox Game Pass, but none dedicated exclusively to xCloud, despite Microsoft’s big push into cloud gaming. There’s also no sign of the Xbox Game Pass family plan, which Microsoft seems to have shelved for now.
