iPhone Fold: Is the Pricing Going to Be Its Weak Point?

TECH NEWS – With the pricing, the Cupertino-based company could shoot itself in the foot, as users may question why they are paying so much…

The foldable iPhone is set to be a brand-new product category with functions that extend beyond those of a typical smartphone. Its standout feature is expected to be the foldable display, which means the camera likely won’t be the main focus. However, Apple doesn’t like to be outdone in any area, and the two cameras on the device will reportedly come packed with many of the same features and enhancements seen in the Pro models. Renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says the iPhone Fold will sport a dual-lens camera setup, though he has not yet revealed further technical specifications.

Previously, prolific leaker Digital Chat Station claimed on Weibo that both of the iPhone Fold’s cameras would be 48 MP. While this doesn’t sound particularly groundbreaking unless Apple implements substantial improvements, it’s worth noting that these same 48 MP sensors are already in use in the current iPhone 16 series and have delivered promising results. Apple is expected to roll out further upgrades to these sensors this year and next, which could significantly improve image quality over the existing iPhone 16 lineup. But still — do these specs justify a $2,000 price tag? (That’s roughly 1 million forints.)

Apple is known for reserving its most premium camera features for its Pro devices, so it’s likely that the iPhone Fold will come with a 24mm f/1.78 main lens coupled with the company’s second-generation optical image stabilization. As seen in the iPhone 16e, the Fold could also benefit from Apple’s camera Fusion technology for better image processing.

Since a telephoto lens seems out of the picture, we can likely expect even more radical changes when Apple unveils its 20th anniversary iPhone model.
