MOVIE NEWS – Sometimes being bad really is good. That’s the lesson behind The Bad Guys 2, an animated film where our loveable rogues try to turn over a new leaf—only to have their plans derailed by a rival crew, the Bad Girls.

The Bad Guys 2 is a true family film: kids can revel in the chaos while grown-ups will enjoy bolder jokes and cheeky movie references. Some scenes riff on Ocean’s Eleven and Mission: Impossible, and even a certain American billionaire who dabbles in politics isn’t spared a jab or two.

Director Pierre Perifel admits the movie-quote avalanche is completely intentional: “When I say our film is kind of Mission: Impossible for kids—especially in the third act—it’s mostly a fun slogan, but there’s some truth. We love Mission: Impossible and Tom Cruise, even though that franchise isn’t the kind of comedy we make. We’re making The Bad Guys, but we’re also putting in a touch of Mission: Impossible. Tom Cruise pushes the limits of human performance. But with animation, we can do literally anything—more than Mission: Impossible ever could—and we do it with a wink, never taking ourselves too seriously.”
