Capcom Shocks Fans: Resident Evil Is Becoming a Real-Time Strategy Game With Survival Unit!

Requiem isn’t the only new Resident Evil game on the horizon, and it’s far from the most daring. Capcom is taking a leap into new territory with the just-announced Resident Evil: Survival Unit. Developed by Aniplex and JOYCITY, details are scarce, but the game is set to headline a special event on July 11.

No one can deny that the Resident Evil series has hit a new stride since Requiem’s reveal. Capcom’s golden goose is gearing up for a blockbuster return in 2026, but few expected the Japanese giant to be working on yet another title in the meantime. Even more surprising: the next game abandons survival horror in favor of real-time tactical strategy. This is Resident Evil: Survival Unit, an all-new mobile experience aiming to chart unexplored territory for the iconic franchise.

Survival Unit is being developed as a real-time strategy game specifically for iOS and Android. According to the first official statements, this new installment will offer a fresh take on the Resident Evil universe, reimagined through the lens of tactical gameplay and designed to appeal to both longtime fans and newcomers alike.

Resident Evil: Survival Unit – Full Reveal Event Coming Next Week

This time, although the project is being led by Aniplex (owned by Sony Music Entertainment) and South Korea’s JOYCITY, Capcom is closely involved to ensure the game remains true to the franchise’s roots. To dispel any doubts, a full reveal event is scheduled for July 11 at midnight (Central European Time), where every detail will be shared—complete with an English-language stream on YouTube.

Perhaps most importantly, the game is planned for release across North America, Europe, Japan, South Korea, and other Asian territories, though exact countries and an official launch date haven’t yet been revealed. This international focus demonstrates the project’s ambition: Capcom aims to build a new community around a Resident Evil title bold enough to break away from tradition.

This move marks one of Capcom’s biggest bets yet to expand the Resident Evil universe beyond classic horror and the usual console platforms. Whether Survival Unit can win fans over with its tactical gameplay remains to be seen—but its announcement has definitely shaken up expectations.
