MOVIE NEWS – Amazon’s highly anticipated James Bond reboot has found the perfect director in Dune’s Denis Villeneuve…but who will play 007? That question remains, and while rumors abound, a new frontrunner has suddenly emerged – and he’s a real outlaw.
With Prisoners and Blade Runner 2049 director Denis Villeneuve now officially set to steer James Bond’s next chapter, speculation about who will take up the 007 mantle is at an all-time high. Now, an unexpected favorite has surfaced: lesser-known British actor Scott Rose-Marsh, whose odds have suddenly skyrocketed, putting him alongside established names like 28 Years Later’s Aaron Taylor-Johnson, The Gentlemen’s Theo James, and Rebel Ridge’s Aaron Pierre.
Scott Rose-Marsh is best known for roles in the psychological drama Chloe, the Welsh series Yr Amgueddfa, and the hit crime comedy The Outlaws. If the name doesn’t ring a bell, that’s because Rose-Marsh has a much lower profile than most Bond contenders – which could actually play in his favor, as studios often prefer lesser-known actors to let Bond himself take center stage.
Becoming James Bond is a major commitment – something big stars like Taylor-Johnson, James, and Pierre might not have time for with packed schedules of blockbusters and series. Rose-Marsh currently isn’t tied up with major roles, a factor that could explain his rapid rise as a contender. The one caveat: he’s older than the late-twenties actors recent Amazon rumors suggest are being sought for 007.
Why Scott Rose-Marsh May Be More Likely Than the Bigger Names
Bookmakers Betfred, Ladbrokes, and Oddschecker now all list Scott Rose-Marsh as a top candidate to succeed Daniel Craig, who exited the role in No Time to Die. In addition to his low profile, Rose-Marsh has unique traits: he sports a scar over his right eyebrow, echoing Bond’s look as described by Ian Fleming – a detail never seen in the movies.
Rose-Marsh also bears a strong resemblance to Dexter: Original Sin star Patrick Gibson, widely rumored to play a young Bond in the upcoming game 007 First Light. Could Amazon be looking to create continuity between the games and movies? Time will tell.
As we wait for official news about Bond’s future, it’s confirmed: Sicario director Denis Villeneuve will helm the reboot. In his statement after the announcement, Villeneuve said:
“Some of my earliest movie-going memories are connected to 007. I grew up watching James Bond films with my father, ever since Dr. No, with Sean Connery. I’m a die-hard Bond fan. To me, he’s sacred territory. I intend to honor the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come. This is a massive responsibility, but also, incredibly exciting for me and a huge honor. Amy, David, and I are absolutely thrilled to bring him back to the screen. Thank you to Amazon MGM Studios for their trust.”
