MOVIE NEWS – Usually, a sequel is decided after a film’s success, but in Black Phone, there was already a hidden hint at the killer’s return—even though he meets his end. Joe Hill—son of Stephen King and author of the novella the film is based on—spoke to ScreenRant about it.
“The Grabber is dead, but the dead never had a problem communicating with Finney. So maybe he’s not as gone as we think.”
“When I saw the Grabber’s mask, I thought there would be plenty of sequels, because it could become a recurring element, like Freddy Krueger’s glove in Nightmare on Elm Street or Michael Myers’ white mask in Halloween. Then I noticed something else. There’s a tiny scene that made me think, ‘That’s a trapdoor to the next film. You just need to lift the lid.’”
Ethan Hawke returns as the Grabber in Black Phone 2, and the main cast from the first film—including Mason Thames as Finney—will be back as well.
