MOVIE NEWS – With Superman now in cinemas, James Gunn’s new DC Universe is officially underway—and two of its most surprising supporting characters are already being discussed for their own television series. Gunn’s DCU strategy stretches across both film and TV: Peacemaker’s second season will follow Superman later this year, Lanterns is set for 2026, and both will feature Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner. Superman’s latest adventure introduces a fresh batch of scene-stealers, and it looks like Gunn is laying the groundwork for more stories to come.
According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, picked up by Deadline, both James Gunn and DC Studios are exploring the possibility of TV series centered around Mister Terrific (played by Edi Gathegi) and Jimmy Olsen (portrayed by Skyler Gisondo). As of now, there’s no official announcement from Gunn or DC. Meanwhile, alongside the already finished Peacemaker S2 and Lanterns, there are also projects like Booster Gold and the Wonder Woman origin story Paradise Lost in development.
Why Mister Terrific and Jimmy Olsen Deserve the Spotlight
Edi Gathegi’s turn as Mister Terrific has earned plenty of praise from critics and fans alike. It’s no surprise—Mister Terrific was one of the first new DCU characters Gunn teased when he joined DC, and his expanded role in Superman hints that bigger things are in store. With Anthony Carrigan’s Metamorpho also debuting, a Mister Terrific series could even bring together The Terrifics—a DC team reminiscent of Marvel’s Fantastic Four.
Jimmy Olsen is another prime candidate for his own show. Despite being overshadowed in past movies and series, he’s been a key part of Superman’s mythos for decades, with the classic Superman’s Pal: Jimmy Olsen comics exploring some of his wildest stories—like bizarre transformations and temporary superpowers. Those comics also introduced major DC elements, such as Jack Kirby’s New Gods and the villain Darkseid.
Gunn’s take on Jimmy presents him as a charming womanizer, which could easily translate to a comedic workplace series with rotating love interests (possibly giving Eve Teschmacher, played by Sara Sampaio, a recurring role). The show could also spotlight Daily Planet figures like Perry White (Wendell Pierce), Cat Grant (Mikaela Hoover), Steve Lombard (Beck Bennett), and Ron Troupe (Christopher McDonald). While a spin-off for Mister Terrific or Jimmy Olsen once seemed far-fetched—much like Peacemaker or The Penguin—after their big-screen debut, both ideas suddenly seem like a perfect fit for TV.
