Predator: Badlands Could Be the Comeback Fans Have Waited 20 Years For—The Latest Trailer Is a Game Changer [VIDEO]

MOVIE NEWS  – After two decades as a Predator die-hard, I’ve never been this hyped for a new movie in the franchise. The reason? The jaw-dropping Badlands trailer. Predator: Badlands hits theaters this November, telling a story set in the Alien universe—whether or not it’s officially canon remains to be seen.

Given how badly Alien vs. Predator 2 burned me back in 2007, you’d think I’d be wary of whatever Predator: Badlands has in store. But everything about the first official trailer just looks so good, it’s nearly impossible not to be counting down the days to November 7th—when I’ll finally see what Dan Trachtenberg has dreamed up for his third sci-fi outing, following the “anthology” Prey and Killer of Killers from three years ago.

20th Century Studios just dropped a full two-minute trailer that expands on all those hints from the earlier teaser—this time, with nothing held back. It opens with Elle Fanning’s character, Thia, trapped inside a notorious Weyland-Yutani Biological Weapons Division capsule (labeled MU-TH-UR 062578, a clear nod to the original MU-TH-UR 6000 from Ridley Scott’s Alien, over 45 years ago).

Later, the trailer brings back those Independence Day vibes, which still have me scratching my head—but I’m dying to see how it plays out. It’s possible none of this will be explained in the film, but the trailer leaves me with a burning question: who (or what) is this ultimate adversary capable of turning the Yautja into prey? Will we get a xenomorph appearance, or is Dan Trachtenberg just trolling us? With the first trailer back in May showing Thia battling a bizarre creature, I was convinced we wouldn’t see the alien… but after this new teaser, I’m not so sure.

The Film Promises Even More Human (and Android) Action

This latest trailer also introduces a small squad of humans and/or androids, confirming that the cast will go far beyond just Dek, the Yautja, Thia, and that rumored xenomorph. I’m not sure what their role will be, but since the story unfolds on a planet previously explored by Weyland-Yutani, it only makes sense they’d get involved.

Whether it’s the theme of overcoming impossible odds, Elle Fanning’s bizarrely compelling chemistry with a Predator, or just the sheer wildness of it all, Predator: Badlands is now my most anticipated film of the year—and honestly, the best-looking entry the franchise has seen in two decades. I only hope it carries forward the momentum set by Prey three years ago and gives this saga the respect it deserves—especially with a new Alien series (Earth) just around the corner.
