MOVIE NEWS – The world is overflowing with superheroes, so now and then, we need an everyday hero. That’s the view of Glenn Powell, star of The Running Man.
The story follows Ben Richards, desperate to raise money for his seriously ill daughter. His only chance is to win a brutally simple, live-broadcast game show. Contestants must run, everyone tries to kill them, and survival means a big cash prize. Of course, the format is designed to be unwinnable.
“I can’t relate to superpowered heroes,” Powell told Empire. “I love the average guy who faces extraordinary challenges. The whole world hunts this guy. Will he survive? Can he save his family? Simple, but powerful.”
This is also why Powell turned down the lead in Jurassic World Rebirth. “Sometimes, you have to imagine yourself in a film. I realized someone else would bring more soul to that character.”
