You don’t need 8 GB of VRAM for everything, as this amount is slowly becoming insufficient for PC games. However, emulating PlayStation 4 games might only require half that amount.
Over the past few months, the PC emulation of Bloodborne with the ShadPS4 emulator has steadily improved to the point that the PlayStation 4 exclusive is now playable, albeit with a few issues, even on an outdated GPU with 4 GB VRAM. One example is the AMD Radeon RX 580. (There is also an 8 GB version of this, as well as the RX 570 intended for the Asian market, which was released as the RX 580 2048SP.)
The video below from ProteinGaming shows FromSoftware’s popular game running on the latest version of the excellent PlayStation 4 emulator with a few mods at 60 FPS and 768p resolution on an RX 580 GPU. Recent improvements to the emulator have made it possible to run the game smoothly on GPUs with low VRAM by fixing VRAM leak issues that caused stability problems, even on GPUs with more VRAM. As a result, Bloodborne is now more playable than ever on a variety of configurations (though a sufficiently powerful, modern processor never hurts).
The latest official version of the ShadPS4 emulator that made it possible to play Bloodborne on PC is version 0.10.0. This version includes numerous improvements that enhance the emulation of several titles, including FromSoftware games and The Last Guardian. The Last Guardian is another PS4 exclusive that has not yet been ported to PC and probably won’t be in its original form unless it is remastered.
Beyond the emulation improvements, Bloodborne is popular among modders who have introduced improvements to the game, including enhanced graphics that wouldn’t be appropriate for a remaster. However, Sony seems completely uninterested in this. Sony owns the rights to the Bloodborne IP, not FromSoftware. One thing is certain, though: the artistic direction has been perfected.
