TECH NEWS – Extreme testing showed that the device is durable on the outside, but the inner display requires extreme care.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 has made a big impression with its sophisticated design, larger edge-to-edge display, and improved durability. It has received positive reviews. In a recent thorough durability test, the phone underwent a series of rigorous tests, including scratch and burn tests, as well as hinge stress tests. These tests revealed the strengths and compromises of the foldable design, raising the question of whether this technology can ever surpass previous trends.
The Galaxy Z Flip 7’s external display performed well in the scratch test, with marks appearing at level 6 and deeper grooves forming at level 7. This is fairly standard, as almost all of the latest phone displays have the same level of durability. Impressively, the external display withstood the burn test for over 20 seconds without sustaining permanent damage.
However, the internal display performed poorly in the scratch and burn tests. Since foldable screens are softer, scratches appeared on it at level two, and it can even be scratched by a fingernail. Under the same heat exposure, two clearly visible burn marks also appeared. This soft inner layer is a well-known disadvantage of foldable technology. Fortunately, Samsung is now offering a free replacement for the inner top protective layer for the first time, which will be a great relief for first-time owners of such devices.
The Galaxy Z Flip 7’s aluminum frame gives the phone a solid feel and protects its internal components. While it can easily resist bending and breaking, it can still be marked by sharp objects, such as keys. Samsung used matte Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the back of the device. This material resists scratches and hides fingerprints, ensuring a cleaner appearance. During the port test, they simulated real-world stress to test the hinge’s durability. While the hinge continued to function, it creaked a few times, suggesting that fine particles may have gotten inside. Nevertheless, the device passed the bending test without structural failure, making only a few minor noises under pressure.
The Galaxy Z Flip 7 survived the durability test in solid condition. However, as this is a foldable device, a breakthrough will be needed to make the internal screen more robust and durable.
