Will the M5 MacBook Pro and M6 OLED Model Be Released Next Year?

TECH NEWS – Apple is finally making the leap that the public has been waiting for years: the company’s laptops will finally have OLED displays.

The switch to OLED promises deeper blacks, richer colors, thinner bezels, and better energy efficiency. However, it appears that the release will be delayed. According to Bloomberg editor Mark Gurman, the delay clarifies the rumors surrounding the M5 version of the MacBook Pro. Gurman says the M6 MacBook Pro with an OLED display is expected to arrive between late 2026 and early 2027, which aligns with Apple’s pattern of gradual updates, as the M5 version will likely be released first.

Gurman had previously reported that the company was considering delaying the MacBook Pro; M5 chip versions are expected in 2026. Assuming Apple sticks to its annual release cycle, the M6 MacBook Pro models would be delayed by a year. However, Gurman points out that Apple may adopt a dual-release approach similar to 2023’s: announcing M2 Pro and M2 Max MacBook Pro models at the beginning of the year and unveiling M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max models in October. If Apple follows the same strategy, the M5 MacBook Pros will arrive in January, followed later in the year by the M6 MacBook Pros with OLED displays and a revamped design.

Samsung Display is expected to supply tandem OLED panels using an advanced 8.6 manufacturing method, which increases efficiency and reduces costs. These panels could result in thinner, brighter devices with better battery life. Apple is reportedly removing the notch and replacing it with a punch-hole cutout or a version of Dynamic Island that may incorporate Face ID. This would give MacBook Pro models a cleaner look and provide more usable screen space.

Switching to OLED would represent a visual and ergonomic transformation. The new panels would provide richer color accuracy, better HDR capabilities, and deeper blacks. This makes them an ideal choice for creative professionals who demand the best display specifications and technology. Furthermore, Apple would align the MacBook Pro with the iPhone and iPad product lines by offering the same OLED experience.

If Apple waits until 2027 to release the OLED MacBook Pro, the 2026 M5 MacBook Pro could be a good option for those who need a new MacBook Pro with better performance sooner. The delay could also be a marketing strategy to generate interest ahead of the big launch.
