Woochi the Wayfarer: A Korean Fantasy Adventure Set in the Joseon Era! [VIDEO]

The Joseon era lasted from 1392 to 1897, and it’s rare to see a game of this magnitude adapted from it. Woochi the Wayfarer is an action-adventure title that follows the exploits of Jeon Woochi, also known as the Dosa, or Mage of the Way. Powered by Unreal Engine 5, it vividly brings the Joseon fantasy realm to life with an original storyline inspired by The Tale of Jeon Woochi, a classic Korean novel in which the titular hero uses his abilities to fight injustice and outwit the corrupt.

The single-player campaign promises a deeply immersive and thrilling gameplay experience, set in magical environments filled with traditional Korean monsters and music. The recently released two-minute-and-20-second teaser builds tension and intrigue by contrasting the image of Myoan, a mysterious shaman casting an incantation, with Woochi’s silhouette standing in a dense forest. The latter part of the trailer features an intense showdown between these two formidable forces.

The soundtrack is colorful and emotionally charged, inspired by traditional Korean music and composed by Jung Jae-il, the acclaimed musician behind the scores of Parasite and Netflix’s Squid Game. Woochi the Wayfarer is a new Nexon Games project designed to deliver a title that meets the highest standards of the global market.

Developer LoreVault is working alongside specialists in Korean literature and traditional music to authentically capture the country’s distinctive history and culture. They are also conducting on-site location scouting, visiting Korea’s cultural landmarks to recreate the Joseon era in high-quality 3D.

“Woochi the Wayfarer offers a fresh and unique gaming experience rooted in traditional Korean elements, while creating an emotional connection that resonates with players worldwide. We aim to present a game that appeals to gamers of all cultures, telling an amazing story that fully showcases Nexon Games’ development capabilities and accumulated expertise,” wrote Park Yong-hun, CEO of Nexon Games, in the press release.

Woochi the Wayfarer is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC, with its release date yet to be announced.
