Mario Kart World Controversy: PETA Slams Nintendo Over Cow’s Nose Ring

It’s no joke. PETA accuses Nintendo of promoting animal cruelty with the Mario Kart World cow character. The animal rights group is demanding that the company remove the nose ring, which it views as a symbol of cruelty.

It has happened again. PETA is once more making its way into the video game industry, not to applaud the depiction of animals in a title, but to attack companies for the way certain mammals are portrayed. Their campaigns often spark heated debate, as many argue that going after a company like Nintendo does little to raise awareness and instead stifles creative freedom.

PETA’s complaint about Mario Kart World’s cow

With the launch of Nintendo Switch 2 and Mario Kart World, the animal rights organization has jumped back into action. In recent hours, PETA has officially called on Nintendo to change the cow character’s design and remove the nose ring. In an open letter published on its website, the group argued that the accessory reflects real practices in the meat and dairy industry, demanding a redesign. While Cow has become one of the most popular racers in the game, PETA maintains that nose rings cause pain and discomfort to cows and are used in those industries to control livestock. “Cow has taken the world by storm; but did Nintendo slip on its own banana peel by giving her a brass nose ring? PETA thinks so!” The group is urging Nintendo to give its bovine star a boost by redesigning her without the nose ring, a painful reminder of what cows endure in the meat and dairy sectors.

It’s no joke. PETA claims Nintendo is promoting animal cruelty simply because the Mario Kart World cow character wears a nose ring.

PETA doesn’t like this

“PETA is calling on Nintendo to throw a blue shell at this sad nose ring design and let Cow drift off to greener pastures.” So far, Nintendo has not issued any public response or confirmed whether changes are being considered. This isn’t the first time the animal rights organization has clashed with the Big N. Just a few weeks ago, PETA filed a complaint because Cow could eat hamburgers in the open world by collecting items scattered across maps and races.
