Red Dead Redemption 2 went a long way toward tying up the loose ends that the original game left unresolved.
Set about a decade before John Marston’s story in the first game, the prequel brought an entirely new cast of characters into the picture while also digging deeper into the histories of familiar figures, most notably Dutch Van der Linde and his gang.
Because Red Dead Redemption 2 never received any major single-player DLC that meaningfully expanded its storyline, fans have naturally shifted their attention toward what might come next and how a third entry in the franchise could take shape.
On Reddit, players have been sharing their boldest predictions about Rockstar’s future plans, and amidst the flood of speculation, a few surprisingly compelling theories surfaced.
“My guess is that it’ll serve as a prequel to RDR2, since RDR2 itself was a prequel to RDR1. We still don’t have the full picture of what happened on the boat, which seemed to completely alter Dutch’s personality, along with other key events that remain a mystery. If memory serves, John was on that boat as well—so maybe we’d play as a younger John Marston, with the story climaxing in that very moment,” one fan speculated.
