Keanu Reeves Could Return as Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2 – But the Choice Is Up to CD Projekt Red!

Keanu Reeves, the iconic actor behind Johnny Silverhand, has expressed his desire to reprise the role in Cyberpunk 2. The sequel is still in its early pre-production stage, but there’s plenty of room in the story for Silverhand to make an appearance.

The final call lies with CD Projekt Red on whether they bring him back. While the studio’s main focus is currently on The Witcher 4, pre-production for a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 is already underway. Previously known as Project Orion, the game is now officially titled Cyberpunk 2 and won’t release before 2029.

Information about the sequel is limited, with no confirmation on which characters will return. Still, Reeves has openly stated he’d love to step into Johnny Silverhand’s boots again. This matters because Silverhand is widely considered one of the best-written characters in gaming history, with Reeves’ performance making him unforgettable. For fans, his return would be a thrilling prospect.

While promoting his film Good Fortune, Reeves was asked by IGN if he would like to be part of Cyberpunk 2. His response left no doubt:

“Absolutely. I’d love to play Johnny Silverhand again.”

With the actor ready to revisit the role, it’s now up to CD Projekt Red to decide whether to bring one of Hollywood’s most celebrated veterans back into the game. However, incorporating Silverhand into the story isn’t straightforward. (Spoilers ahead!) Cyberpunk 2077 offers multiple endings, and none has been confirmed as canon by the developers.

In several endings, Silverhand survives by taking over V’s body. Making this outcome canon would mean confirming V’s death, something many fans would resist. This is why CD Projekt Red has never committed to a single canon ending. Still, the developers could choose to please fans by reviving V, or by bringing Silverhand back in flashbacks, cameos, or Easter eggs.
