AMD Ryzen 5 9500F: Another AliExpress King CPU from AMD?

TECH NEWS – Like its predecessor, the Ryzen 5 7500F, this CPU is expected to launch exclusively in China.

AMD has quietly announced the Ryzen 5 9500F, currently the slowest and cheapest chip in the Ryzen 9000 lineup. Built on the Zen 5 architecture, it lacks integrated graphics but otherwise mirrors the Ryzen 5 9600/9600X specs, apart from boost clock speed. The processor will officially launch on September 16, less than a week from now. AMD presented slides detailing specifications and projected performance compared to the Ryzen 5 7500F.

The CPU features 6 cores and 12 threads, with a 3.8 GHz base clock and up to 5.0 GHz boost clock — 400 MHz slower than the 9600X. Other specs remain unchanged, including the combined L2+L3 cache and a 65W TDP. As the 7500F’s successor, the 9500F benefits from Zen 5 improvements, offering noticeable gaming performance gains. According to AMD, it can be up to 24% faster in Baldur’s Gate 3, while the average uplift across ten AAA titles is around 9%.

Some titles, like F1 2023 and Black Myth: Wukong, saw minor drops, but significant boosts were recorded in Elden Ring, Watch Dogs: Legion, and Far Cry 6. In competitive games, the 9500F achieved an 11% average improvement across ten titles. Testing was conducted at 1080p, high settings. These results differ sharply from Bilibili benchmarks, where paired with a GeForce RTX 5080, the 9500F was just 3.5% faster than the 7500F. Notably, most games had DLSS enabled, so results weren’t native resolution.

Interestingly, much of the uplift comes from just two games: DOTA 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Most others showed minimal differences, meaning players may not notice much in practice. The Ryzen 5 9500F is priced at 1,300 RMB (about $181), only slightly cheaper than the Ryzen 5 9600X’s suggested Chinese retail price.
