According to a rumor, the more powerful PlayStation 5 model in 2025 will have more than just the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) upscaler.
In a new video (embedded below), Moore’s Law Is Dead discussed when AMD’s latest resolution-boosting technology might arrive on the PlayStation 5 Pro. The leaker suggested that this would happen in the first quarter of 2026, alongside support for RDNA 3 GPUs or shortly after. Support for RDNA 3 graphics cards could already roll out in December.
Although Moore’s Law Is Dead has built a reliable track record with PlayStation leaks in recent months (being the first to reveal the AI-powered PSSR upscaler), his claims in this video should be taken with caution. Lead system architect Mark Cerny has confirmed that AMD FSR 4 support will indeed arrive on the PlayStation 5 Pro in 2026, making it highly likely to land in the first few months of the year, just as suggested.
While it’s official that AMD FSR 4 will be implemented on the PlayStation 5 Pro next year, little is currently known about how the system will manage the upscaler or how developers will integrate features like AI-driven super resolution and frame generation. The big question remains: how will technology that runs on a Radeon RX 9070 XT translate to the console environment?
Back in July, well-known AMD insider Kepler_L2 explained that the console cannot run the model used on RDNA 4 GPUs because it lacks FP8 support. This means additional work will be required to adapt the full version of the technology for the console. Moreover, existing games are likely to need updates since the current PSSR version does not allow system-level DLL replacement.
Even without AMD FSR 4, and with PSSR delivering only average results at times, the PlayStation 5 Pro remains a solid choice for gamers who want to experience PlayStation 5 titles at their very best.
