TECH NEWS – In addition to the base model, we will discuss the Pro and Pro Max models. The Cupertino-based company has innovated and improved in many areas.
The iPhone 17 comes with a 6.3-inch OLED display with ProMotion technology. The refresh rate can scale from 120 Hz down to 1 Hz to save battery life. It features 3,000 nits peak outdoor brightness and Ceramic Shield 2, offering three times the scratch resistance with an atomically bonded coating. All iPhone 17 models include anti-reflective properties enabled by a seven-layer coating.
The new A19 chip is built on TSMC’s 3nm N3P architecture. It includes an updated Display Engine for high refresh rates, an improved NPU for Apple Intelligence, and greater memory bandwidth for generative AI. The processor has six cores (two performance + four efficiency) and five GPU cores.
On the back, the iPhone 17 features a dual-camera setup: a 48 MP main sensor and a 12 MP telephoto with 2x optical zoom. The front houses a 24 MP TrueDepth sensor. Video playback lasts up to eight hours longer than the iPhone 16. It comes in five colors (black, white, fog blue, sage, lavender) and starts at $800 with 256 GB of storage.
The iPhone 17 Pro swaps titanium for a 20x stronger aluminum alloy, with reinforced rear glass and Ceramic Shield 2 on the front for four times better crack resistance. Powered by the A19 Pro chip, it features a 6-core CPU, 6-core GPU, and neural accelerators integrated into every core. Apple claims a 40% performance boost over the iPhone 16 Pro. Vapor chamber cooling debuts here, ensuring consistent performance under heavy loads. The Pro can now run large language models locally, enabling Apple Intelligence features without relying on the cloud.
Graphics upgrades include hardware-accelerated ray tracing for more realistic visuals in games. The Pro display measures 6.3 inches, while the Pro Max stretches to 6.9 inches. Both OLED screens support 120 Hz ProMotion, ultra-high brightness, and anti-reflective coating. The Ceramic Shield 2 ensures stronger scratch resistance. eSIM-only models offer up to two additional hours of video playback thanks to larger batteries.
A new 18 MP Center Stage front camera widens the field of view for sharper selfies and dynamic framing in calls. The rear Fusion Camera system combines three 48 MP lenses (wide, ultra-wide, telephoto). The telephoto uses a 56% larger tetraprism lens, enabling 4x zoom at 100 mm and 8x at 200 mm. At maximum zoom, the updated Photonic Engine and deep learning models deliver sharp, color-accurate images. ProRes RAW recording is supported, along with AI workflows through Final Cut Camera and Blackmagic Camera apps. GenLock allows synchronization with external cameras. Connectivity includes 5G, Wi-Fi 7, and Ultra Wideband.
Preorders open on September 12 at 2 p.m. The iPhone 17 Pro starts at $1,100, while the Pro Max is priced at $1,200.
