If you’re hyped for Battlefield 6 and casually browsing Reddit, you’d better stay alert: a scam is circulating that tries to hijack your Steam account. The trick? Ads that invite you to join a fake “playtest.”
The Battlefield 6 beta turned out to be a huge success. Not only did it outperform heavyweights like Call of Duty, but it also drew so many players eager to try EA’s next big hit that it became the most successful beta in the franchise’s history. Unsurprisingly, thousands of fans have already circled October 10 on their calendars, ready to dive back into battle once the game officially launches. Unfortunately, cybercriminals are exploiting this hype to roll out scams targeting Steam users.
According to Battlefield Bulletin on X—thanks to a tip from user qwertyfish99—Reddit has been hosting promoted posts inviting players to join a Battlefield 6 playtest. But in reality, this is nothing more than a phishing scheme: scammers use the game’s name as bait to trick players into handing over their Steam login details with the false promise of early beta access. Once they gain access, attackers can use those accounts and sensitive data for their own benefit.
Sharp-eyed fans will spot the deception quickly. The so-called Battlefield 6 Reddit ad not only pushes a nonexistent beta, it also directs players to a fake domain, ‘ea(dot)6-Battlefield(dot)com’, before redirecting to another fraudulent address, ‘store(dot)steampowered(dot)joined-playtest(dot)com’. By stuffing official-sounding keywords into the URLs, scammers make it look as if users are visiting genuine EA or Steam sites.
Still, not everyone is up to date on EA’s actual beta plans. This means some eager fans might be fooled into entering their Steam credentials on the bogus page, not realizing it’s a scam. That’s why raising awareness about this trap is so important.
Battlefield 6 Is Almost Ready for Launch
Meanwhile, EA’s development team is polishing the final details to ensure Battlefield 6 doesn’t just match what players experienced in the beta but actually exceeds expectations. The studio has already announced adjustments to the class system and balancing tweaks based on player feedback from official playtests. Everything points toward an October 10 release that EA hopes will deliver exactly what fans are waiting for.
