According to a new rumor, Ubisoft is thoroughly reworking Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, released almost 12 years ago.
The Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remake is one of the gaming industry’s best-known secrets. Although it has not been officially announced, numerous rumors and leaked information over the years have suggested that it is in development. Not to mention, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has confirmed that remakes of Assassin’s Creed games will be released. Jeux Vidéo Magazine, which has published accurate, unannounced information about the Assassin’s Creed franchise in the past, has further heightened anticipation with a new rumor, albeit in an unexpected way.
Apparently, there will be significant changes. One of the main changes is that the game will reportedly lean more heavily on the RPG aspects of Assassin’s Creed, which have been built up since the release of Assassin’s Creed Origins. Edward will even have stats for his equipment. The modern-day sections will be removed and more emphasis will be placed on Edward Kenway’s pirate adventures. While the map will not be larger, there will be new missions and more activities in the game. Loading screens between being on the ship and on land will disappear. Content cut in 2013 will return. The remake is expected to be released sometime in the first half of 2026, most likely in March.
If even a few of these claims are true, especially the removal of modern elements and the change in gameplay to resemble the RPG era of Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed games, then this will be a significant reworking compared to the original. This raises interesting questions about the other remakes that Guillemot has confirmed Ubisoft is working on. Will the rest of the franchise be revamped to resemble the latest RPGs? Will the modern-day parts of the games be reworked? Ubisoft has mentioned that incorporating modern-day stories into historical epics is difficult. Could this be a step toward eliminating or permanently changing that?
We’ll find out when Ubisoft finally announces the remake.
