Peacemaker Season 2 Twists Will Have Major “Consequences” for the DCU

MOVIE NEWS – James Gunn promised before the show even premiered that the final three episodes of Peacemaker Season 2 would be among his best work. Now, the cast and crew confirm that these episodes won’t just deliver shocking twists but also shape the entire future of the DC Universe. Peacemaker Season 2 is already more than halfway done, but the best is still to come. According to James Gunn, the final three episodes contain some of his proudest work, kept away from the press to avoid leaks. Fans are buzzing about potential major cameos, and one cast member has confirmed that these episodes will have significant consequences for the DCU.

During an appearance on the Phase Hero podcast, star Jennifer Holland revealed that “a lot is revealed” in the final three episodes of Season 2 and that the revelations will carry “a lot of consequences for the DC Universe.” It’s not yet clear what will be impactful enough to ripple through the cinematic universe, but it’s safe to say that the rest of the season on HBO Max is essential viewing for DCU fans. The latest episode ended with Christopher Smith (John Cena) traveling to an alternate universe, leaving behind his found family. Whatever is hidden in this new dimension may be central to the story, but Holland’s cryptic tease leaves the door wide open.

“A lot happens, a lot is revealed. It has a lot of consequences for the future of the DC Universe… The next three episodes are pretty wild.”

Since Episode 1, audiences have speculated about the sinister reality Peacemaker has stumbled into. Clues scattered throughout the season hint at an alternate timeline often referred to as Earth X, where the Nazis won World War II. Some sharp-eyed viewers even noticed an ashtray shaped like a swastika in the Smith family’s home. Until the final episodes air, it’s all speculation, but the evidence suggests a bigger reveal is imminent.

James Gunn also shared that one of Season 2’s new characters had to be recast after the original actor had already filmed several scenes. Fans now know Michael Rooker plays Red St. Wild, an eagle hunter tasked by A.R.G.U.S. to track down Eagly, Peacemaker’s loyal sidekick. However, another actor originally held the role before Gunn pivoted mid-production and brought in his longtime collaborator.

“Last season, we talked a lot about how we recast Vigilante. Well, we recast Red St. Wild. It was another actor, a very talented actor, a great guy. But for various reasons, it didn’t work out. After we had shot most of his scenes, I called up my friend Michael Rooker and asked him to do it. He said, how much money? I said, you’ll actually have to pay us. And he agreed.”

Who originally portrayed Red St. Wild remains a mystery, but this isn’t Gunn’s first major casting change. In Season 1, Gunn famously shot more than five episodes with Chris Conrad as Adrian Chase (aka Vigilante) before Conrad departed due to creative differences. Freddie Stroma ultimately stepped into the role and has since become a fan favorite. Recasting mid-shoot may be unconventional, but Gunn’s track record shows his instincts pay off.
