Is Meta Working on Dual Display Smart Glasses?

TECH NEWS – Mark Zuckerberg’s company doesn’t want to fall behind competitors like Apple with its Vision Pro and Samsung.

Meta appears determined to push users toward adopting glasses as everyday technology. Until the company fully invests in its AR project, its products won’t seem futuristic, and the shift will feel more natural. It started with Ray-Ban smart glasses, then added a small screen for notifications. According to a report, the company is now preparing to launch a dual-display version. Meta is not waiting until its AR glasses arrive in 2027 and is aggressively expanding into this product category.

According to Bloomberg editor Mark Gurman, Meta has already started developing a new pair of smart glasses that won’t be ordinary, featuring two displays—one on each side. While these aren’t exactly AR devices, they demonstrate Meta’s ambition for everyday augmented reality. In 2021, Meta partnered with Ray-Ban to release its first-generation smart glasses, focused on hands-free photography, video, and calls. In 2023, the second generation improved cameras, sound, and voice assistant features. This year, the Ray-Ban Display introduced a built-in screen for notifications and quick updates, aiming to change how people view and use glasses.

Meta’s new dual-display glasses initiative would allow information to be accessed on both sides. While this alone doesn’t qualify as a full AR experience, it moves closer with the ability to quickly display texts, navigation directions, and calendars. It doesn’t seem like a gimmick, but rather something practical for daily use. Since bringing AR glasses to market is complicated and requires more effort, it makes sense for Meta to launch intermediate products that ease users into the idea of using glasses as a screen.

Dual-display smart glasses may not deliver the full sci-fi AR dream, but they help people get accustomed to and comfortable with the concept.
